Conflict in Swedish Ports Affects the Port of Karlshamn

Karlshamn, 21 May 2025
On Tuesday, 20 May, Sveriges Hamnar signed the Port and Stevedoring Agreement for 2025–2027 with the Swedish Transport Workers’ Union (Transport). As a result, all notices of industrial action between Transport and Sveriges Hamnar have been withdrawn.
However, industrial action by the Hamnarbetarförbundet remains in effect and is now impacting operations at the Port of Karlshamn.
The situation is being closely monitored, and we are doing everything we can locally to minimize the impact on our customers. Further information about the conflict is available on the Swedish Ports industry association’s website (Transportföretagen/Sveriges Hamnar).
– We respect both the industry association’s and the unions’ processes and regret that the parties have not been able to reach an agreement. Since the industrial action notices became known, our focus has been on planning to maintain operations where possible, mitigating the consequences for our customers, and ensuring a safe working environment before, during, and after the industrial action, says Caroline Säfström, CEO of the Port of Karlshamn.
– We are in close dialogue with our customers and have taken several measures to manage the situation. Nevertheless, large parts of our operations will be affected, says Cecilia Håkansson, Head of Sales and Marketing.
The Port of Karlshamn will continue to monitor the development and keep affected customers informed.
