Port of Karlshamn shows strength in weak shipping market

Sjöfartsverkets latest statistics show that the number of ship calls to Swedish ports decreased by almost three percent in 2025, which is the lowest level since 2008. The background is a continued recession and reduced demand in several parts of the basic industry.

Against this background, the Port of Karlshamn shows a clear positive development. In 2025, the port increased its total cargo volume by just over 7 percent, which deviates significantly from the industry's general development, where cargo volumes nationally decreased by approximately 2.4 percent.

– This shows that the Port of Karlshamn has a business model and a customer offering that works even in a more challenging market. Our task is to be a stable and competitive link in Swedish logistics where we see continued demand within our prioritized segments as well as good cooperation with our customers , says Caroline Säfström, CEO of the Port of Karlshamn.
