Port of Karlshamn opens corridor to Poland

Karlshamns Hamn öppnar korridor till Polen

The Port of Karlshamn is opening a new strategic corridor with a ferry line to Poland, thereby strengthening its position as a central logistics hub in the Baltic Sea. The new route creates opportunities for both freight and passenger traffic and contributes to the development of the region's shipping.

"With this investment, we are improving accessibility in the Baltic Sea and opening up new opportunities for both business and travelers, while further strengthening the Port of Karlshamn's role as a growing node in international logistics. It feels good to now be able to realize a clear mission from the board – a corridor to Poland," says CEO Caroline Säfström.

POLSCA Baltic Ferries expands its route network. New Gdańsk–Karlshamn service

The newly established company POLSCA SA is implementing another stage in the development of a joint brand bringing together Polish ferry operators. An agreement has been signed regarding the launch of a new ferry connection on the Gdańsk–Karlshamn route, in cooperation with the Port of Karlshamn and the Port of Gdańsk.

The Gdańsk–Karlshamn service complements the existing ferry connections operated by Polish ferry companies, including Świnoujście–Ystad, Świnoujście–Trelleborg, and Gdańsk–Nynäshamn, and forms part of a long-term strategy to develop ferry connections between Poland and Sweden.

The route will be operated by two vessels with similar cargo capacity, each capable of carrying approximately 90 freight units. One vessel will be primarily dedicated to cargo transport, while the second will be a ro-pax ferry, offering comfortable travel for passengers.

Sailings will be operated six times per week, with evening departures from both ports and morning arrivals. The crossing time on the Gdańsk–Karlshamn route will be approximately 13 hours.

The agreement between Polish Baltic Shipping Co. - Polferries and the Port of Karlshamn has been concluded for a minimum period of three years. The launch of the service is planned for later this year, following the completion of works related to the adaptation of port infrastructure in Karlshamn to accommodate ferries operating on this route.

The launch of the Gdańsk–Karlshamn connection strengthens the position of Polish ferry operators in the Baltic Sea region and is aligned with the strategy of integrating operational potential, expanding the route network, and building a strong and competitive ferry offer between Poland and Sweden. The POLSCA project is based on cooperation between experienced ferry operators and the gradual development of a joint offer responding to the needs of both the freight and passenger markets.
