RWE and the Port of Karlshamn have signed a memorandum of understanding

RWE och Karlshamns Hamn har undertecknat ett samförståndsavtal

RWE, a global leader in offshore wind power, and the Port of Karlshamn have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU). The purpose of the collaboration is to investigate whether the Port of Karlshamn can be a potential port for logistics, installation, operation and maintenance in connection with RWE's planned offshore wind power project in the Baltic Sea. To begin with, the parties will map the requirements and the necessary expansions and investments to facilitate the port's ability to increase its capacity. An early implementation of port capacity will ensure that Sweden is well positioned to maximize the potential of the offshore wind industry. Within the collaboration, the parties exchange knowledge, expertise and experiences that show a clear commitment to strengthening industrial growth in Sweden.

Matilda Machacek, Nordic Head of Offshore Wind Power at RWE: "Having sufficient port capacity and a sustainable supply chain are two important success factors for the expansion of offshore wind power. A new offshore wind farm can transform a nearby port into a dynamic hub that generates growth, infrastructure, jobs and economic benefits for the region. We therefore look forward to working with the Port of Karlshamn to evaluate their potential as a future hub for offshore wind power."

Anton Andersson, Project Manager at RWE Renewables Sweden: "Our offshore wind farm Kårehamn is a good example of port development, which over a decade has produced green electricity for thousands of Swedish households. The wind farm has played a decisive role in reviving the old fishing port in Kårehamn, here we see that the Port of Karlshamn has incredible potential. RWE plans to build and develop more offshore wind farms in the Baltic Sea based on previous experiences and successes.”

Caroline Säfström, CEO of the Port of Karlshamn: " The Port of Karlshamn is proud that RWE, one of the world's leading companies in offshore wind power, supports us in our plans to become a hub for this growing business area. With its yard and natural deep harbor, the Port of Karlshamn is well positioned to cover the future needs of the offshore wind power industry in the Baltic Sea. The need does not only consist of port capacity in the form of loading and unloading, but also in the form of an operation and maintenance center. It is a natural part for us to expand Karlshamns Hamn's product portfolio because we have previous experience in project lifting and logistics for wind power.By establishing ourselves as a center for offshore wind power, we also create jobs for the region and business opportunities for local companies and suppliers, which contributes to the economic development of the region and strengthens the community economy. "
