Port of Karlshamn purchase more land for expansion on short and long term

Port of Karlshamn intend to purchase 200.000 m2 land in the port area. The investment is about 31 Mio SEK.

- This is a strategic investment for future expansion, at the same time solving customer needs in the shorter perspective. It enables us to offer our customers optimal flexibility and a good business partner. The market see that we are prepared to invest to meet demand in the short and long run, says CEO Mats Olsson.

The intended area is located between Munkahusviken (Munkahus bay) in the Stilleryd Port, south of the new Intermodal Terminal. At the moment the land is owned by Karlshamn Municipality.

- For the time being, it is in this geographical direction we can expand, says Mats Olsson. The ports activities within various segments continue to grow. For example we can expect  longer and larger ferries or RoPax-vessels, demanding expansion of RoRo-berths and parking areas for lorries and Semitrailers.

- Apart from the long term expansion, some large projects are in the pipeline with demand for vast areas. Projects like the "Nord Stream II" (the 3:rd and 4:th gas pipeline in the Baltic Sea between Russia and Germany) and "Blekinge Offshore", a gigantic off-shore based wind turbine project south of Karlshamn. In both cases vast areas for storage and assembly will be needed in the port area and the port will be an important business partner. With the new investment in land, we can offer the customers what they need and also secure our long term expansion for the next 20-30 years, says Mats Olsson.

The formal purchase is now being handled by the political bodies within Karlshamn Municipality.
