Keel laying ceremony for second DFDS ro-pax Karlshamn-Klaipeda

Guangzhou Shipyard International (GSI) in Nansha has laid the keel of what will become DFDS’s second next-generation ro-pax ferry for the Karlshamn-Klaipeda service. The 4500-lanemetre and 600-passenger capacity ro-pax ferry is expected to be introduced during the second quarter of 2021. The port of Karlshamn is meanwhile anticipating the entry into service of the two 54,900gt DFDS ro-paxes. The two existing berths in the Swedish port are too small to accommodate the newbuilds, so a third ro-ro berth with adjustable linkspan will be constructed, costing about SEK 200 million. This includes dredging works.
