Chinese delegation in Karlshamn

A delegation consisting of representatives for the Chinese Railway "Sinotrans", the Chinese International Freight Forwarders Association, Logistics operators, Port Agents etc., visited Port of Karlshamn. Also representatives of some major Shippers in Sweden, as well as the largest rail operator in Scandinavia; Green Cargo and the Shipping Company DFDS Seaways participated.

The purpose is to establish a land bridge connection for containers between Sweden And China via Klaipeda-Karlshamn.

Sweden is the country in Scandinavia which has most trade with China. The reason for looking at Karlshamn is, the excellent infrastructure for rail to Port of Klaipeda and the daily ferry connection Klaipeda-Karlshamn. From Karlshamn, operators as Green Cargo can distribute by rail all over Sweden and to Norway within a few days. This will mean competitive lead time and sustainable transportation door-door.

When transporting a Swedish container by rail to China via for example Germany, the container must be reloaded in east Poland, due to different rail gauge in west Europe and former Soviet Union. Lithuania has Russian rail gauge, why containers Karlshamn-Klaipeda may be transported directly from Klaipeda.

The Chinese delegation also established new relations with swedish exporters and logistic operators via presentations and networking during the visit. Many Swedish exporters and importers need a complement for some of their shipments, with a lead time between ordinary ocean freight and air freight.

The delegation arrived from Lithuania, where they attended a conference arranged by East West Transport Corridor Association (EWTCA). As a member of EWTCA, Port of Karlshamn also made a speach at the conference, which took place in Vilnius and Klaipeda.
